It's a 1955 circus lover's delight; makeup caked clowns, dancing bears and swinging acrobats entertain in black and white. Castle films; created by Eugene castle in 1924, was best known for their Sci-Fi flicks such as ‘Frankenstein’. This brief black and white circus short delivers an incredible slice of the circus world in the mid 1950's. Big Top shows were travelling circus shows performed under the traditional large red and white big top tents. Clowns slop on thick face paint (:19). The announcer calls the crowd in. Dwarf clowns ready with small hand held mirrors and puffy face brushes (:22). Red noses (:28) and top hats are smashed on and in. The brass band swings in (:45). Marching girls stomp through (:50). A gothic suited clown wanders by; doll like head knocking side to side (1:01). Elephants swing around the center ring (1:07). Whip lashes prompt tricks (1:20). Youth greedily soak in the show; bright eyed and chin ducked behind the barrier (1:28). Dancing horses (1:31) play the equine ballet. A clown mingles among spectators (1:42) and a dwarf scoots across dirt (1:52). A toothy smile rolls in from the crowd (2:00). The Zebra show follows (2:02). A bucking mule kicks a daring guest (2:17). Jugglers (2:38) throw Indian clubs like firecrackers (2:40). Slinky seals play with beach balls (2:53). Clowns return for a spinning plate trick (3:27). The blonde stunned blue eyed baby, the girl with short hair and the dancing bear (3:39) pass on screen. Swimsuit clad tumbling twins somersault (4:19). The tight rope walker hopscotches side to side (4:31). The magician (5:02) plays with smoke rings. A suited clown jiggles for the camera (5:21). Boxing clowns (5:49) throw drunken punches (5:57). Tigers (6:28) and fur crowned lions jump through hoops (6:48). A thin framed aerialist (7:39) is pulled up for the high wire act (8:16).
