<description>THIS IS CANADA is a promotional tourism film produced by the Canadian National Railroad, highlighting the cities, sights, and incredible natural landscapes of Canada. In this portion, three people give their perspective on the country. The first person is an avid fisherman. The film begins with a shot of someone fly fishing on a lake with majestic mountains in the background (00:17), as the man talks about Canada’s incredible fishing. This is followed by scenic footage of British Columbia (00:40). The man mentions a lodge on the north end of Lake of the Woods, Ontario (01:00) that is a great place to base fishing trips out of because it also has a golf course, swimming, and other activities. Animals are abundant in this part of Canada, as beavers (02:00), black bears, and all kinds of birds call the area home. Lake St. John country (03:03), or Lac Saint-Jean, in Quebec has incredible lakes and rivers for fishing, such as the Serpentine River (04:23). New Brunswick also has world-class fishing rivers—fishing the Tobique River (04:05) is one of his favorites. He joins a group of men going out to harpoon fish for swordfish (05:14) in Nova Scotia (04:45). The film goes to the second narrator, a young boy from Omaha, Nebraska. He talks about the impressive timber industry (06:50) in British Columbia and how logs are transported downriver (07:25). He also mentions that in Canada, Royal Mounted Police ride boats (07:45) more than horses, that you can meet Eskimos and their huskies in Churchill (07:52), see imposing railway engines (08:14), and have breakfast picnics in Jasper, British Columbia. Watching a black bear play (08:41), skiing with rope-tow lifts (08:50), and taking in a Canadian parade (09:21), rodeo (09:35), and the Toronto Exhibition (09:58) are just some of the other activities to enjoy in Canada. The last person to talk about Canada is an artist (10:55). He discusses how every area of Canada is different but beautiful. He mentions the colorful beauty of Newfoundland’s rugged coastline (11:22), the rivers and roads of Prince Edward Island (12:12), the south shore of Nova Scotia (12:38), New Brunswick’s rolling green hills (13:02), and Quebec’s bird colonies (13:29), old farm houses, and windmill (13:52). Rural Ontario (14:08) with its farmlands and lakes, the grasslands of Alberta (14:46) with their spectacular sunsets, the Canadian Rockies (14:56) in Jasper National Park with their breathtaking peaks and waterfalls (15:15), and Mt. Robson (15:25) in British Columbia are all unique and majestic parts of Canada. The final places the artist mentions, which conclude the film, are the village of Kitwanga (16:00) and its totem pole collection, the town of Prince Rupert (16:07), the Inside Passage (16:28), and the Yukon’s northern town, Whitehorse (16:51).
