The film presents the daily life of Officer Bryan -- his home, his family, his involvement in different cases and situations. It was produced by Sid Davis, a prolific filmmaker who spent a career making educational and social guidance films. "Peace is Our Profession" begins with a suspect being arrested (seemingly randomly) while onlookers make up their minds about the situation. This is followed by the start of the day for Officer Bryan, who takes care of his kids before heading out on patrol. The film then follows this cop on his daily routine and the duties he and his partner perform. This includes arresting shoplifters, investigating attempted burglaries and noise complaints, bringing lost children back home, arresting teens for drug possession, and investigating suspects in murder cases. The film ends with the same scene it started with and it turns out that the person being randomly searched matched the description of the suspect. The film seeks to promote a positive image of the police as guardians of peace and order in the city, while also portraying them as paternal figures. 0:12 title “Peace is our Profession”, 0:16 produced in cooperation with the Culver City Police Department, 0:21 a mechanic helping a couple with their engine when a police vehicle shows up, 0:43 a man being searched against a fence while onlookers watch, 1:15 an officer fixing his child’s bike, 2:23 a children’s baseball game with the officer as referee, 2:51 a team of police officers taking notes at a table, 3:27 a police unit heading out on patrol with their car, 3:52 patrol pulls up and begins speaking to some girls who are accused of shoplifting, 4:43 shoplifter is put into back of police car and driven to the station, 5:14 police patrol investigating an attempted burglary, 5:45 a drunk driver being given a field sobriety test, which he fails, and is subdued, 6:17 a police officer telling off a child for playing in a fenced off area and bringing him home, 7:54 two men begin running once they see the police, 8:16 police officers responding to a domestic quarrel. 9:22 woman speaking to both officers as they search for people in her backyard, 10:28 patrol speaking to someone after a shooting, 11:46 a patrol pulling to help an officer with a party, 12:16 teen sees officer and throws away drugs, 12:36 teens begin running away and are chased by the police, 13:14 teenager is arrested and the drugs are found, 14:15 officers stopping next to an old car with a man and a woman in it, 14:53 police arrest woman and man, while onlookers shout at them, 16:19 another patrol arrives to begin defusing the situation, 16:54 sign of the Culver Judicial District Court and the officer walking out of the courthouse, 17:53 a man fighting with an armed man at a gas station and then gets shot, 18:39 patrol on search for suspects that match the murderers description, 19:02 they stop the suspect, begin searching him, and then ask him to identify himself, 20:33 “The End: A Sid Davis Production” Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
