The party was hosted by Murray Roman; it was estimated that 30,000 people were on the beach that day. Shot by an unknown amateur filmmaker, this silent home movie swings around Venice Beach, California capturing the hippie culture at its best and worst. Opening shots run along the sand and shores of Venice (:03). Locals fill the sand, lounging and leaning; kids kick off in front (:07). A quick shot shows some of the roller coasters from the Pacific Ocean Park (:38). A crowded lot; white stucco shops of Venice beach around (:52). The view swings over the colorful inhabitants; somebody plays a red snare set in the center (1:03). Blue waves of the Pacific run up to meet the crowds (1:13). Dark shots follow the party inside (1:24). Three shirtless men on a bad trip (1:31) throw jabs at one another and the crowd swarms in (1:33). A man in dark shades passes out watermelon (1:46). One of the fighting men screams at the crowd chomping happily on watermelon (1:51). A homeless man leans back on the sidewalk watching (2:09). Close shots follow the watermelon slices (2:22). Two women smooch over a bashful long haired hippie (2:31). A couple hangs affectionately close (3:03); the female makes an exchange with a man nearby (3:09). A couple chomps on gum in unison (3:43). A thin browed blonde gyrates for the crowd in a black bikini (3:59). The film switches to black and white (4:21). 'Merry Brucemas' hangs on a banner (4:31) for the massive birthday party celebration.  Cheetah (4:35) reads on a banner noting the swank Cheetah Club. Hippies sit around a small fire on the beach (4:55); girls with sand up to their ankles. A lounging man plays with his tongue for the camera (5:08). Another smokes a pipe (5:27). A small circle within the crowd beat tambourines (6:06). A recorder player hides under thick hair (6:41). Bongos players beat skins (7:10). Close shots show vigorous dancing (7:39), paranoid expression (7:46), a happy dancer on the ground (8:13) and two men swinging back like bent trees and forth (8:28). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
