Images include City Hall, the famed Santa Monica Pier -- technically the end of Route 66 -- and the beach and harbor. (At this time Santa Monica had a breakwater, that is almost completely invisible today, that allowed boats to anchor near the pier.) Douglas Aircraft Co., the city's biggest employer, is seen at about the 2 minute mark, as well as the Santa Monica Airport. The original version of the Third Street Promenade is seen at about the 3 minute mark. Back in this era it was a real main street completely with Henshy's Department Store. Most of the stores are gone today although the Sear's remains. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
