Trolley" was photographed by Leo Caloia, who gained fame as the first movie cameraman to ever film Marilyn Monroe. The film begins with a PCC car, Los Angeles Railway #3141. At :42, another LARY car pulls up behind it. At :52, the trolley car moves down the street. Its destination sign reads, "Pico to Rimpau". At 1:15 car #3152 is seen. At 1:43 #3152 is shown moving at high speed in traffic, including a motorman's POV shot and rear view. At 3:04, a view of a PCC car from a high building (possibly City Hall) is shown. At 3:30 a PCC moves past downtown with City Hall in the background. Note: given the color scheme of the PCC car, and the presence of 1959 autos in the film, the film was probably shot in the 1959 or the early 1960s (service ended on this line in 1963). The Pico Blvd. to Rimpau line PCCs were known for their "Fruit Salad" color scheme, which included yellow, green, and other colors. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us via the weblink below. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
