It shows the process of Christian missionaries propagandizing Christianity in the Belgian-occupied Congo, influencing local tribes to convert to Christianity to grow the Protestant church in Africa. The film is produced by William E. Brusseau in cooperation with Westminster Films in Pasadena, California. It is photographed and narrated by Harvey R. Widman and edited and directed by Frederick A. Roberts. The Belgian Congo was a Belgian colony in Central Africa from 1908 until independence in 1960. The former colony adopted its present name, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in 1964. Girls wearing traditional tribal outfits with the grass skirts (04:06). They dance a ceremonial dance marking their step into adulthood (04:24). A woman walks through tall grass carrying a jug in her head (05:07). She gets kidnapped by a group of men as disciplinary action against the woman (05:16). The tribe’s head man blows into his fetish flute and prays (06:08). A man drums on a tree log (06:22). Tribe members walk to gather at a hut (06:33). They listen to gospels and prayers inside the hut (07:06). A large crowd of locals and missionaries are gathered at a Christian church for gospels and prayers (07:27). Scenes of locals who turned to Christianity while their story of conversion is told (09:06). Members of the tribe break idols, charms, etc., which belonged to their previous faith (10:14). They burn them (10:40). Tribe members sat in a circle bowing their head for prayer (10:46). Converts are baptized (11:19). An African evangelist is preaching as locals gather to listen (11:43). A school built by missionaries (12:08). Children are schooled within the missionaries’ Christian propaganda program (12:13). A group of local women are also schooled within the missionaries’ Christian propaganda program (12:52). They are sewing (13:14). They hand over money to the leader of the church (13:31). Young men are standing in a row (13:58). People sitting on a bench with their heads bowed for prayer (14:17). Missionaries gathered in celebration of their 75th anniversary spreading Christian propaganda in Congo (14:46). A rally in 1953 organized to commemorate the arrival of the protestant missionaries (15:13). A reverend and other pastors give speeches at the rally (15:46). Scenes of missionaries interacting with locals and providing them with medicine (16:24). They all pray together (17:16). A new church is being built by local volunteers (17:57). They all stand in front of the finished church (19:06). Other evangelist churches (19:23). A sunset (20:07). A casket covered in flowers (20:16). The casket is carried from the church (20:25) and a ceremony takes place (20:54). The casket is lowered into the ground (21:44). People throw flowers onto the casket in the ground (22:04).
