The plot revolves around Mrs. Blanding, a young bride and mother whose older husband has become a Naval officer and gone to sea. Of course he is in harm's way, and the results are catastrophic. Just before going into action, Steve writes a letter mentioning how important his service in the military is…and making it clear that every man must do his duty. This letter arrives at home just before a fateful telegram from the Navy, informing Mrs. Blanding that her husband is missing in action. Lewis Allen (25 December 1905 – 3 May 2000) was an English film and television director. Allen worked mainly in the United States, directing 18 feature films between 1944 and 1959. From the mid-1950s he moved increasingly into television and worked on a number of the most popular shows of the time in the US. Barbara Britton (September 26, 1919 – January 17, 1980) was an American film and television actress. She is best known for her western film roles opposite Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, and Gene Autry and for her two-year tenure as inquisitive amateur sleuth Pam North on the television series Mr. and Mrs. North. James Craig (February 4, 1912 – June 28, 1985), born James Henry Meador, was an American actor. After graduating from the Rice Institute, Craig began appearing in films in 1937, most often in B-movies and serials. In 1939, he appeared in the Three Stooges film Oily to Bed, Oily to Rise.
