It features David Newell, who was the editor of Field and Stream for many years. (He was also a hunter, fisherman, writer, editor, explorer, tv producer and star, wildlife and ecosystem conservationist.) The film showcases oceanic fishing on the Gulf Coast. It starts at Miami Beach's famed Rod and Reel Club, and features boats from the Pier 5 deep sea fishing fleet. The narrator describes general fishing advice and common tackle and equipment for fishing in the gulf stream. We ride along with folks on their fishing escapade, seeing a variety of commonly found fish in the area, and watching the fisherman battle the mighty creatures of the ocean. Director Harold McCracken was an American writer, Alaskan grizzly bear hunter, biplane stunt photographer, cinematographer, producer and museum director. He was most of all a noted explorer, who led expeditions in the 1920s tracing the possibility of a long-ago land bridge between Siberia and Alaska. (0:11) Title sequence. “Florida Fishing. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you.
