It was released in 1963 and directed by Frank S. Cellier. Edmund Hillary was a New Zealand born adventurer known for his daring climbs of nature's great wonders such as Mount Everest in May of 1953 with Tenzig Norgay. He also founded the Himalayan trust. The film begins with the expedition readying themselves for the journey and continues to show the construction of new schools at Thyangboche and Tham and a pipeline for fresh water into the village of Khumjung. Sir Edmund Hillary addresses viewers (:38). A map of Nepal (:51). The tour begins in Kathmandu (1:10) and the stunning white architecture of the former Royal Palace. Preparing for the trip; loading up an open green truck with supplies (1:15). A VW bus brings up the rear (1:27). Porters take up their loads atop their backs (1:36). Packs of the expedition members are pictured (1:53). Dawn springs up as a member of the group begins with a cup of tea (2:17). They pass over a jagged countryside (2:36) of rice paddies and wide valleys (2:45). Prayer flags wave outside of a monastery (3:05). The large group enjoys breakfast together (3:38). A pair stops at a high point to view the suspension bridge below (4:34). Hands touch chains on each side as they make the crossing (4:54). Some wade through the stream (5:02). Men of the camp pitch up tents (5:36). A banner welcomes the group into the village of Kijong-dong (5:48). A school appears recently (6:00) constructed by this group of travelers. Grateful parents and students serve a welcome for the explorers (6:10). The camera pans over the village nestled in a valley (6:22). Edmund narrates the construction for a pipeline which will draw fresh water into the village (6:25). Women of the tribe were forced to cart water in a heavy basket on their backs from far locations (6:37). Men move supplies for construction of the pipe up the hill (6:51). The engineer of the trip is pointed out (7:17). First men work to receive a consistent flow from the fall (7:23). Primitive hand tools are used. Young villagers apart of the project are zoomed in on (7:51). A stream of water pours out (8:17). A young boy sleeps on a woman's back as she draws easily from the new water supply (8:42). Edmund reads a request from another village whom having heard of their endeavors in Kijong-dong too wished for a new school (9:12). He admits to two new projects; one at Pangboche (9:25). Mount Everest rises in the background (9:28). Scenes follow of the villagers hard at work; snow falls on the construction project (11:21), the roofing is installed (11:52).  Doctors deliver treatment for locals (12:31) over an outbreak of small pox. A dedication ceremony is performed (13:40). The flag is raised, the anthem is sung and Edmund’s wife (14:50) cuts the ribbon. Children sing another tune outside the school (15:12). Scarves are exchanged as a tradition of honor and respect among the villagers (15:49). They begin to enroll students (16:07). Two years after the opening of the school; a sports day is celebrated (16:37). Happy scenes of the youth of the village playing sports games (17:45). During the school construction, party members climb a virgin peak of the Himalayas (19:31). A snow covered base camp is set up at 177,000 feet (19:42). Gear for the climb is set in the snow (19:57). Supplies of equipment and food are carted out (20:29). A tent at camp one is pictured nestled among a boulder (21:01). The stone mountain face is pictured as Edmund discusses the process of climbing Taboche (21:10). Another camp is set up as the group reaches 20,000 (24:33). Close shots show the climbers digging through the snow on their way up (25:09). The summit appears a short distance away  (26:05). A delicately balanced snowy ridge (26:42) blocks the climbers from the summit. They plant prayer flags about 200 feet from it (26:55) as the film concludes.
