This is copyright 1944 and was directed by Beth Zinkan aka Elizabeth Zinkan, who also produced "Craftsman at Work", "Trees That Reach the Sky" and several other films. "Cattle Country" offers a portrait of cowboys and ranching in the foothills of southern Alberta. Segments on the round-up, cleaning, spraying, feeding and shipping illustrate some of the less dramatic jobs involved in bringing Canadian beef to the world's tables. Opening titles: Canadian Work and Wealth Series 4 - Cattle Country (:06-:32). Vast spaces of Western Canada. Cowboys on the range, a man sips coffee. A ranch hand sits. A cattleman. The men climb on their horses. Map of Cattle Country in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Canada, south of Calgary. Cattle wander and graze on the grassy hillsides. Streams from the melting snow provide water for the cattle. Cattle graze and ford the river. Lots of cattle move up a hill(:33-2:26). Cattle on on the grass. Cattlemen bring their cattle into a stockade. Cattle are cleaned and sprayed to keep bugs off of them. Healthy cattle get better grade in the fall market. A cowboy sits with his dog. Cattle on the move once again as the cattle drive continues (2:27-3:55). A cowboy guides the cattle from his horse. Cattle climb a hill near rock formations. A little calf is stuck on a rock until an older cow comes and accompanies him. A cowboy guides the cows back to the rest of the herd. They go through a stream (3:56-5:32). Cows move through rocky terrain. The herd fords a river.. Cowboys move the herd along. Herd of cattle go up a grassy hill (5:33-6:41). Cows move around the cowboys. Herd cuts across water to cross. Huge herd of cows on the grass. Cows eat in their stable (6:42-7:40). Cattle behind a fence. A young cattleman tries to wrangle a horse. Cattle is paraded, Royal Canadian Mounted Police assist. Cows are loaded onto a Canadian Pacific Railroad cattle car. The train moves to market (7:41-8:52). End credits (8:53-8:58). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
