<description>One in a series of films made by the U.S. Department of State for the Bicentennial in 1976, this film THE RELUCTANT WORLD POWER shows the history of U.S. foreign relations from 1914 when the nation was a neutral party, through the entry into the war, the armistice, and the role played by President Woodrow Wilson in the conflict and uncertain peace that followed. Includes the sinking of the RMS Lusitania and Wilson's work to found the League of Nations. The film then continues through the year 1939, as Adolf Hitler and the Fascist allies unseat the fragile democracies of Europe, and bring the world to the brink of war once again. The League of Nations and the work of the USA in between the wars end up being ineffective. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. We collect, scan and preserve 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have films you'd like to have scanned or donate to Periscope Film, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us via the link below. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD and 2k.
