<description>Audience: Officer, Enlisted, and Civilian Personnel In Department of Defense (DOD) Activities (Active And Reserve) Associated With Military Air, Surface, Subsurface and Space-Based Operational Planning, System Development, and Training. Operations, Communications, Intelligence, Cryptology. Synopsis: This portrayal of the fundamentals of satellite operations was jointly produced by the Naval Space Command and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with the purpose of providing a concise visual description of the basic principles affecting the launch, orbit, operation, and tactical use of satellites. The brevity (35 minutes) and simplistic manner in which the terminology and principles associated with satellite operations are presented make this production ideal for augmentation of unit training programs throughout the Navy, Marine Corps, and Department of Defense (DOD) activities. With the use of space-based assets for military applications becoming more widespread, it is imperative that military personnel (officer, enlisted, and civilian) in the fields of tactical system development, operational planning, intelligence, cryptology, communications, environmental operations, and training view this production. This product has application in most naval formal training programs and unit GMT/positional training. Purpose: Understanding of the terminology associated with, and principles surrounding, the operation and implementation of satellites. Viewer will be more prepared to tactically employ space-based assets. Description courtesy of the National Archives.
