The animation then continues by showing what happens to the ingredients once they are thrown into the furnace. The final part of the film shows how workers tap the furnace to release slag and iron, and how this iron is molded and cooled down. 0:07 “Blast Furnace”, 0:11 a large iron processing plant, 0:18 a labelled diagram of the plant, 0:40 list of ingredients that the charging gear brings to the furnace, 0:53 animation of how the different parts of the processing plant work together, 1:39 close up diagram of what happens at the base of the furnace, 2:30 limestone pieces, 2:44 a pile of iron ore, 2:55 chunks of coke, 3:07 skips bringing raw materials to the furnace top, 3:21 animation of how the raw materials are dropped into the furnace, 4:16 animation of the smelting at the bottom of the furnace, 4:55 a model of the lower part of a blast furnace, 5:05 men preparing to tap the furnace, 5:19 slag being tapped and flowing into a ladle, 6:05 a man sealing the tap hole, 6:18 Iron being tapped while men supervise it, 7:22 Iron flowing into ladles, 7:35 a special gun sealing the tap hole, 7:54 ladles being moved by rail, 8:12 molten iron being poured into a channel and into molds to create “pigs”, 8:59 completed “pigs” falling into rail carts, 9:14 piles of iron bricks, 9:42 “A British Instructional Film” in cooperation with the National Committee for Visual Aids in Education.
