Most of it was filmed in late March of 1946 -- about six months after the bomb was dropped. The production team was led by Lt. Col. Daniel A. McGovern with cameraman Harry Mimura (a Japanese cinematographer who worked in Hollywood). The film begins with footage of bricks being salvaged by hand. At :48 a notice of some sort is posted on a street pole. At 1:12 are shots from the harbor of various vessels. At 2:52 a slate is briefly seen showing the date of March, 1946. At 3:12 a woman with a stooped back approaches the cemetery and at 3:37 women are gathered at a shrine. At 3:51 more rubble is moved. At 3:59 trucks are shown along with oxen drawn carts piled high with goods. At 5:43 what appears to be a marketplace is shown. At 6:19 a woman cooks soup in a large wok. At 6:37 spices and other goods are shown on display. At 6:47 a man offers cloth for sale and puts on a kimono to demonstrate how nice it is. At 7:25 other goods are shown on display and a scale is used to weigh them. At 8:15 smoke belches from a distant factory complex. At 8:32 the source of the smoke is shown, a large building on fire. Firefighters attempt to put out the blaze with hoses. At 9:05 a traditional Torii type gate is shown on the water. At 9:21 a shinto temple or shrine is seen. It all appears untouched by war. At 11:06 a boat transits to a dock. At 11:18 a large edifice is shown, possibly the Hiroshima public school which survived the bombing. At 12:21 surgery is performed and at 14:39 the patient's arm is shown with what appears to be a large abrasion.
