The film begins with shots of a crowd at Piers 30 and 32 in San Francisco's Embarcadero, home of the Matson Line. SS Lurline (the third vessel to bear that name) was a 18,564-ton passenger liner, and operated from 1932-1963. At :24 the ship cruises under the Golden Gate Bridge and into the Pacific. Various scenes of life aboard the ship during the cruise follow, including passengers sunning on the deck (:59) and playing tennis or paddleball. At 1:51, the ship reaches Honolulu. A vessel comes alongside with a band to greet the ship. At 2:38, scenes in Hawaii of newly arrived tourists with lei garlands and a hula dance at 2:56. At 3:53, classic images of Diamond Head and Hawaii's famous Waikiki Beach. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
