Different levels of the competition are shown including rubber band powered planes, and radio controlled model aircraft. The event was sponsored by KDKA radio, and many participants assembled a KDKA Racer kit as part of the contest. The Pittsburgh Aeromodelers club can also be seen throughout the film. In 1967, the national championship was held in Los Alamitos, California. Originally known as the American Academy for Model Aeronautics (AAMA), the group was founded in 1936 with the goal of creating a self-governing body of aeromodeling experts to provide guidance to model builders. The AMA was originally part of the National Aeronautic Association, but became independent in 1966, a year before this film was shot.
