Joshua is a Black student who has won an athletic scholarship to a college in Texas, and enjoying one last day in Harlem before he heads to his new school. He spends his day hanging out with a girlfriend, and running through Central Park. While running in the park, he interacts with a little boy, who ends up calling him a racial slur (the N-bomb). Joshua runs away and accidentally bumps into a white teen trying to fly a kite. They physically fight each other, but end up speaking afterwards and raising the kite together. While the message of the film is that racist encounters should not affect how others are treated, it problematically suggests that racism should just be ignored. Cast: Errol Booker as Joshua, Greg Brown as Boy with Kite, Gary Allen as Young Boy, Mira Espinosa as Mother, Thelma Drayton as Fanny and Curt Stewart as Henry. 0:07 ACI presents “Joshua,” 0:14 Joshua doing boxing exercises in a mirror, 0:38 Joshua speaks to a man on the street from his window, 1:20 Joshua and his mom pack together while speaking, 2:10 Joshua leaves the house and walks down the street, 2:40 Joshua runs across a busy intersection, 3:04 a woman runs after Joshua and begins talking to him, 3:54 the woman hands Joshua a gift and they begin playing tag, 4:44 both of them dance around and pose next to statues in the park, 5:20 different shots of Joshua running through the park, 7:15 Joshua slows down and walks down some stairs into a Zoo, 7:29 Joshua watches a young boy roar at a sleeping lion, 8:00 Joshua speaks to the boy and begins making animal sounds, 8:41 the little boy calls Joshua a racial slur, 8:52 Joshua continues his run, 9:15 Joshua runs into a boy who is trying to fly a kite, 9:24 Joshua begins to argue with the boy, 9:46 Joshua kicks his kite and they begin physically fighting each other, 10:23 Joshua wins the fight and stands over the boy, 10:46 Joshua limps away and takes off his shoe, 11:06 Joshua and the boy stare at each other, 11:29 the boy reminds Joshua that he forgot his radio, 11:54 the boy begins fixing Joshua’s radio and speaking to him, 12:34 Joshua and the boy hold up the kite and speak, 13:00 Joshua starts raising the kite and it flies, 14:00 Joshua hands the kite over and begins running away, 14:59 edited by Gary Goch, 15:10 Written and Directed by Bert Salzman, 15;16 in co-operation with the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
