The first video segment describes the Saturn V test vehicle as it was transported to the launch pad from a construction area. The second video segment shows how astronauts used star and moon citings to position and guide spacecraft. The third video segment contains historic footage of the 1969 moon landing. This unnarrated segment contains footage of the Apollo 11 launch, lunar module touchdown on the moon, Apollo 11 astronauts walking on the moon, lunar module liftoff from the moon, and the command module touchdown on Earth. The fourth video segment briefly describes a series of preshuttle test aircraft used in development of an airplane like spacecraft. Aircraft and their research purposes reviewed are the X-1 flight research program, which produced the first aircraft to fly faster than the speed of sound; the D-558 skyrocket, used to study jet aircraft characteristics at trans-sonic speeds; the X-15, which demonstrated that winged Earth exit and re-entry were possible; the largest experimental aircraft, the XB-70, used to study stability and handling characteristics; the lunar landing research vehicle; wingless flight vehicles; and others.
