<description>Support Our Channel : https://www.patreon.com/PeriscopeFilm Featuring a hip rock and roll soundtrack, this 1971 U.S. Air Force news and recruiting film (sorry it's a bit choppy) features a couple of segments. First, a pilot recruiting film with F-4 Phantom, F-102 Delta Daggers and other aircraft being put through their paces. A second section beginning about 4 minutes shows General Bernie Bass signing the receipt for a C-133 CargoMaster, received into the collection of the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson. General Lawrence Doyle is seen handing over the aircraft. The Douglas C-133 Cargomaster was a large cargo aircraft built between 1956 and 1961 by the Douglas Aircraft Company for use with the United States Air Force. The C-133 was the USAF's only production turboprop-powered strategic airlifter, entering service shortly after the Lockheed C-130 Hercules, which was known as a tactical airlifter. It provided airlift services in a wide range of applications, being replaced by the C-5 Galaxy in the early 1970s. The film highlights the rapid career advancement opportunities available in the U.S. Air Force, particularly for college graduates who can quickly take on leadership roles as pilots and aerospace leaders. It outlines three main paths to becoming a pilot: through the Air Force ROTC program, the Air Force Academy, or Officer Training School, all of which lead to flight school. The video then shifts focus to a joint Air Force and Navy training exercise involving F-106 and F-4J pilots, designed to provide experience flying against aircraft with characteristics similar to potential combat adversaries. Despite differences in aircraft and uniforms, the training fosters collaboration between the two branches. The narrative then moves to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where Colonel Bernie S. Bass signs off on the retirement of the C-133 Cargo Master aircraft, marking the transition to the newer and more capable C-5 Galaxy. Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence Doyle, a long-time C-133 pilot, reflects on the aircraft’s history and achievements, including its 1958 world record for carrying 118,000 pounds of cargo and its total mileage equivalent to 9.5 trips to the moon. The C-133 was known for its ability to transport oversized cargo that no other aircraft could handle, making it essential for military logistics. The video concludes with the aircraft’s final flight to the Air Force Museum, symbolizing the end of an era for propeller-driven cargo aircraft and the beginning of a new chapter in military airlift technology with the introduction of the C-5 Galaxy. 00:00 Recruiting pitch: challenging the common belief that one must start at the bottom to succeed. It emphasizes that in the U.S. Air Force, individuals can take on significant responsibilities right after completing officer training. College graduates, in particular, have opportunities to quickly rise in rank and leadership. The Air Force offers a fast-tracked career path, allowing individuals to become pilots and aerospace leaders soon after joining. 1:11: There are three main ways to become an Air Force pilot: ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps), The Air Force Academy or Officer Training School (OTS). 2:01: Joint Air Force and Navy training exercise conceived at Aerospace Defense Command (Colorado Springs) and Miramar Naval Air Station (San Diego, California). This exercise pairs Air Force F-106 pilots with Navy F-4J pilots. 3:52:Despite differences in aircraft and uniforms, the Air Force and Navy pilots share a common heritage and purpose. Pilots learn from each other, practicing everything from formation flying to dogfight maneuvers. 4:09: Wright-Patterson AFB, home of the Air Force Museum. Col. Bernie S. Bass, the museum curator, officially signs off on the retirement of C-133 Cargo Master #2008. The C-133 is being retired to make way for the C-5 Galaxy. 4:29: Lt Col Lawrence Doyle describes the powerful cargo plane and its achievements. 6:18 :The C-133 was an essential aircraft for carrying oversized cargo that no other plane could handle. 7:21:Doyle reflects on the end of an era. The transition from large propeller-driven cargo aircraft like the C-133 to newer, more advanced jet-powered transports like the C-5 Galaxy marks a significant change in military aviation.
