It deals with the difficulty in understanding between parents and teenagers. It depicts the story of a girl as she reaches an age where rules of her youth no longer apply. It also details how parental reaction to their growing child affects their relationships. The film was directed by Don Haldane (:16). The film was produced by Jim Briggs (:26). The character called Sylvia (:41) appears at age fourteen still in bed. The narrator notes certain changes Sylvia experiences as she enters adulthood (1:55). Sylvia snaps to attention as her mother enters the dining area (17:48). Sylvia's parents discuss the night's events (18:18). Sylvia's father appears outraged (18:54) over the evening as well as reports in the paper of youth involved in sex and violence. The pair discuss the changes in the daughter as she begins to need them less (20:51). Sylvia dwells in her room (21:02). She drifts off to sleep (21:37). In her dreams her mother approves of the evening rather than reacting negatively (21:49). After a pleasant interaction, the kids clean and leave the home (22:31). In the kitchen, Sylvia and her mother are better able to connect and discuss things such as sex due to her calm demeanor (22:40). Sylvia explains slang terms learned from movies (23:19). Sylvia's mother invites the group to return (24:09). The relationship between mother and daughter appears to flow more smoothly as she accepts her daughter's new independence (25:00). They discuss orders within their home (26:07). Sylvia's intelligence shows as she questions her identity (26:45). Sylvia’s mother enters her room as she rouses from her dream (27:16).
