        <description>Filmed by Encyclopedia Brittanica's brilliant cinematographer Isadore Mankofsky, this color educational film is about the operations of a modern airport, filmed at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). Copyright 1962. Opening titles: Airport In The Jet Age (Second Edition: Airport). Mr. Stuart parks his 1961 Ford station wagon (:06-:35). Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower. Two air traffic controllers converse. A jet takes off and is seen clearly from ATC. Los Angeles Tower. Mr. Stuart gives airplanes permission to land. Pan American 707 jumbo jet lands. United jet taxis. Jumbo jet takes off. Aerial shot of the terminal (:36-2:19). Plane from Chicago to Los Angeles lands. Jetways or jet bridges mate with a United Airlines 727. As people exit the plane, fuel is put into the plane and mechanics check the plane. Flight crew for the next use of the plane reports in. Weather map is sent for them to review (2:20-3:47). Weather maps from earlier show wind and storms. Pilot and Co-Pilot look over the maps. Dinners are being prepared, assembly line style, in a kitchen at the airport. A Los Angeles Airways helicopter comes in for a landing. L.A. Airways helicopter. United jet takes off. A taxi pulls in and a man exits. A salesman comes into the airport, he needs to go from LA to NYC. A ticket salesman uses a punch machine that is tied into a central computer to keep track of all tickets sold. Bonanza Air Lines Fairchild F-27A plane (3:48-5:54). (Bonanza operated from 1945 until it merged with two other local service airlines to form Air West in 1968.) The Williamson family is flying to NYC as well. Luggage is weighed and tagged with a destination tag. Luggage is sent down a system of conveyors toward its plane. Luggage is loaded into a container which is then placed into the flight (5:55-7:34). Luggage is driven to the a plane. Lockheed Constellation taxis and is unloaded. Another Flying Tiger Freight Lines cargo plane is visible in the background. Passenger agent checks tickets near boarding gate. Departure time sign. The jetway is pulled back from the United DC-8 Mainliner. The captain calls the tower, plane starts to taxi (7:35-9:09). Plane is in position for takeoff. Pilot is cleared for takeoff and races down the runway and into the sky. Another plane lands as it gets dark. Airport at dusk  (9:10-10:04). End credits (10:05-10:11). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
