Upham visited China and lived there from 1922 to 1927, during which time he attempted to make a long feature travelogue entitled "Pieces of China". Apparently Upham did many private screenings in Hollywood but could not get distribution for the film. The original, full-length version is now considered lost. This short, which was one of several Chinese travelogues released by the Kodak Film Library, is quite extraordinary in that it shows the Bund, Soochow Creek, Woosung, and the Chinese City as well as many other sights. Thanks to WWII, the Chinese Revolution / civil war and the Communists, not to mention the rise of Capitalism, this place is now entirely different. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA.
