He describes the precision required of the crane operators. Imagine having to pass a test by writing your name on a piece of paper using a Magic Marker attached to the hook of a 250 ton rated crane! The hook is over 400 feet below your control cab! They could also touch the top of an egg without breaking it. Dan worked for NASA contractors for 31 years... 1983 - 1987: Launch Equipment Shop "LES Shop" Mechanic 1987 - 1994: Crane, Door and Platform Mechanical Technician 1994 - 2010: LES Shop Mechanic 2011 - 2014: Crawler Transporter Mechanic He started in 1983 working for Boeing Services International. Then as contracts changed hands, he continued with Lockheed, Lockheed Martin, Untitled Space Alliance, then Jacobs Technology. Dan retired in 2014 and currently volunteers as the American Space Museum Facilities Manager.
