It also includes a segment on women's professional baseball, which flourished for a time during WWII and for a few short years afterwards. The film was originally produced by Pathé News, Inc., a newsreel and documentary producer originally based in the UK and France, which maintained a USA operation. These women are part of the South Bend Blue Sox, a women's professional baseball team who played from 1943 through 1954 in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. (04:55). Charles "Pepper" Stis, the manager for the Racine Belles, is an ex-professional baseball player, as is Marty McManus of the South Bend team. Connie Wisniewski of Grand Rapids, a right hander, is pitching the ball (05.47), followed by another team member Charlotte "Skipper" Armstrong of South Bend (06:07). A game begins (06:25).
