<description>Presented by the Special Events Section of the United States Dept. of Treasury, this short film is a promo for the Victory Loan Program in 1945. The film presents an overview of the motion pictures created to promote the Victory Loans — war bond sales — to continue financing the war effort. The films promoted include "Peace Comes to America", "Stilwell Road", "Objective Security", "Diary of a Sergeant", and more. The film ends with the song "We've Got Another Bond to Buy" sung by Bing Crosby. This film from the U.S. Treasury’s War Finance Division outlining the Victory Loan program, aimed at encouraging Americans to continue purchasing war bonds even after major combat operations have ceased. It highlights the availability of 15 new dramatic films, including messages from President Truman and features on key wartime and postwar topics such as the Pacific theater, radar technology, and national rehabilitation. These films, distributed widely on 16mm, are tools to inspire support in schools, factories, banks, and community events. The campaign is bolstered by large-scale special events—Army parades, Navy Day celebrations, Air Force glider shows, and appearances by hundreds of military nurses. The motion picture industry is heavily involved, with theaters, trailers, and Hollywood stars helping to drive the bond message home. A patriotic song reinforces the central message: the war may be winding down, but Americans still have "another bond to buy" to finish the job and support returning troops. 0:00 – The U.S. Treasury’s War Finance Division introduces its comprehensive Victory Loan program, designed to support all local committees across various sectors, including agriculture, industry, banking, retail, schools, and women’s groups. 0:37 – Fifteen new dramatic films are available for the Victory Loan drive, widely distributed on 16mm film for schools, banks, factories, and clubs. Previous drives had over 141,000 showings to 33 million people. 1:18 – The featured Victory Loan film includes messages from President Truman and other officials, emphasizing themes like jungle warfare and the fight for freedom in Okinawa and China. 2:31 – Additional films cover topics like rehabilitation, radar, aerial warfare, post-war jobs, and include Navy bulletins and patriotic screen songs to support the bond campaign. 3:24 – Major events are planned to boost visibility, such as Navy Day, Army parades, and an Air Force glider show, all aimed at drawing crowds and promoting bond sales. 4:06 – Army and Navy nurses will participate in rallies, tours, and exhibitions. The motion picture industry, including theaters and producers, is mobilized to support the campaign with special trailers and events. 4:50 – Hollywood stars will contribute through appearances and promotional content like the Hollywood Victory Cavalcade film, aiming to create public interest and boost bond buying. 5:03 – Special events are crucial for campaign success. Committees are advised to monitor updates and use campaign resources to enhance local promotions under the slogan “Service to help you finish the job.” 5:45: A musical number emphasizes the continued need to buy war bonds, reminding the public that the war effort isn't over and encouraging personal financial contributions to bring the troops home. The War Finance Committee was in charge of supervising the sale of all war bonds during WWII, and the War Advertising Council promoted voluntary compliance with bond buying. Popular contemporary art was used to help promote the bonds such as Any Bonds Today?, a Warner Brothers theatrical cartoon. More than a quarter of a billion dollars' worth of advertising was donated during the first three years of the National Defense Savings Program. Bond rallies were held throughout the country with famous celebrities, usually Hollywood film stars, to enhance the bond advertising effectiveness. Many motion pictures during the time, especially war dramas (a form of propaganda itself), included a graphic shown advising patrons to "Buy War Bonds and Stamps", sold in the lobby of the theater. The Music Publishers Protective Association encouraged its members to include patriotic messages on sheet music. Over the course of the war 85 million Americans purchased bonds totalling approximately $185 billion. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. We collect, scan and preserve 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction.
