This promotional film for the University of Arizona dates to the early 1960’s. It provides a campus tour and a look at available courses, and shows off distinguished alumns. It is created by the University of Arizona’s Bureau of Audio and Visual Services (:08). The UofA was originally founded in 1885 as a land grant institution under the Morrill Land-Grant Act (:22). It rests in the outskirts of Tucson (:34). A copy of the Orthographic Atlas of the Moon is shown (1:09). The University has a faculty of over 1,500 (2:08). The campus is situated in a sub-tropical landscape (2:20). The Spanish Mission San Xavier del Bac is pictured (2:37) close to the campus. Saguaro cacti dot the campus grounds (2:54). The Santa Catalina mountains rise north of Tucson (2:56). The College of Agriculture (3:10) has over twenty specialized departments (3:10). The College of Business and Public Administration (3:46), the College of Education (3:56) and the College of Fine Arts (4:06) are shown. The Drama Department utilizes one of the best theaters in the nation (4:12). Collections of works from the Samuel H Crest Foundation are viewed at the University Art Gallery (4:15). The College of Engineers (4:36) offers nine programs (4:36). The Civil Engineering Building (8:04) precedes the College of Mines (5:08) and the Arizona College of Law (5:27). The laboratory facilities of the College of Pharmacology are shown (5:38). The College of Liberal Arts (5:41), and the College of Medicine (6:02) follow. Students conduct tests inside the laboratory at the School of Home Economics (6:33). A wide span of the sprawling campus (7:07) leads to the President of the University of Arizona, Dr. Richard Harvill speaking about the college’s alumni throughout the country (7:24). The film shows some of these alumni beginning with Fred C. Struckmeyer (8:04), Lorna Lockwood (8:07), Jesse Addison Udall (8:10), Renz L. Jennings (8:13) all of which are Justices of the Arizona Supreme Court. Agricultural alumni include Orville Knox (8:29) and Marshall Humphrey (8:34). A copper mine (8:38). Representative of the copper industry is John Lynch Jr., manager of the Morenci branch of Phelps Dodge Corp.(8:41). East C oast alumni include Curtis G. Benjamin of the McGraw-Hill book company (8:49) and Cecil Hudnall of the Standard Brands International Corp. (8:57). Time Magazine shows Sherman Fairchild, chairman of the board of Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp. (9:03). The President of the Midwest Stock Exchange, James E. Day, is also an alumni (9:09). Dr. Henry Eyring (9:19) served as the dean of Utah graduate school as well as a past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Charles Summers, the president of Monsanto (9:31) and Kenneth Bilby, the executive vice president of RCA (9:40) follow.  Paul Fannin served as the U.S.Senator for Arizona (10:00) and as governor. Morris Udall served Arizona in the House of Representatives (10:18). He was later elevated to a cabinet position as the Secretary of the Interior by John F. Kennedy. Both of the Udall brothers are seen along with Senator Howard J Cannon of Nevada (10:27). Representative from Kentucky, Frank Stubblefield follows (10:33) as well as a former presidential candidate Barry Goldwater (10:41). Gatherings on the campus include Senior Day (11:02), Girl’s State (11:10) and Future Farmers of America (11:20). Football season’s top feature is the Band Day (11:26) as musicians head out for a show during halftime (11:31). Fraternity row (12:40). The Student Union Building has a memorial dedicated to UofA members whom had lost their lives in both World Wars (13:01). The university’s Radio and Television Bureau is located within the Modern Languages Building (13:43). Students of law conduct courtroom practice with their peers (14:06). Hearing therapy and testing is conducted in the Department of Speech (14:23). The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory is situated in the Space and Sciences building (14:40) and across from the campus are the offices and labs for the Kitt Peak National Observatory (15:03). Graduation ceremonies for ROTC cadets (16:28), and the annual intercollege rodeo (17:49) follows. The Arizona baseball team has one of the longest schedules in the country (18:14). Football stands are seen jammed packed during the season (18:42) and at homecoming there is a parade of floats on campus (18:58).
