At 1:49, destitute Italian civilians are evacuated aboard an L.S.T. At 2:08, a man is deloused by an Italian soldier using DDT. At 2:20, children cling to their surviving parents. At 2:39, a small crowd of orphans are shown. At 2:50, clothing is distributed to the refugees. At 3;16, refugees are interviewed in hopes of being reunited with family members. At 3:30, food is served to women, children, and the elderly at a temporary shelter. At 3:56 a hospital is shown where a refugee has just had a baby. At 4:10, refugees move to a camp in Southern Italy for resettlement. At 4:35 a young, distraught girl cries and moves away from the camera as the narrator hopefully comments that the work of many may someday "put a smile back on her face."
