<description>This 1962 black and white film about Soviet schools was distributed by McGraw-Hill Text-Films, and produced and directed by Nicholas Webster. Female and male schoolchildren sing while they hoe the ground to learn manual labor. Others fix a fence (:10-:44). A technical training class teaches how to use machine equipment. Another teaches technical drawing (:45-1:35). A technical teacher instructs the class on electrical engineering. Students work at machines. Top students have their photos on the wall (1:50-3:50). Students must join two clubs. A poster of a rocket is shown. A student takes piano lessons. Others take dance lessons. A choral group sings (3:52-6:24). No longer in uniform, a group of older teenagers meet at an evening party and dance. A large poster of Lenin hangs on the wall (6:25-7:25). Other controlled activities at Young Pioneer Palaces include swimming, trampolines, gymnastics, basketball, using telescopes, building model planes, taking care of animals, gardening, art, drama, and ballet (7:26-12:00). A bust of Lenin looks on as students learn political education. Pictures of Pioneers who died for the Soviet cause hang on the wall (12:01-14:00). Technical training students also have mandatory extracurricular activities. Some perform in an orchestra, some sing in a choral group, take guitar lessons, perform ballets, and dance (14:02-18:18). Three generations of men talk about life in Russia (18:20-20:43). Mother carries in dinner to the family (20:44-21:37). A boarding school is shown. Students wear headphones to learn Chinese. Others do woodworking, sewing, cooking, and serving food (21:39-24:08). A large statue of Lenin is shown. Ten-year-olds take the Pioneer oath to love and serve the Communist Party (24:10-25:30). A teenage boy works on homework (26:14). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
