It is accompanied by beautiful rolling tunes from the Guatemalan Marimba Band. The film is directed by Jean Oser; known for the 1933 Don Quixote, and written by Robert Hertzberg. Viewers peak at a slice of Guatemala; its culture, people and lands touring locations such as Lake Atitlan, Guatemala City and the Tikal temple prior to the removal of foliage. The film opens with the Pan Am logo (:15). Guatemalans push a boat inland amid long palms (:27). It was produced and photographed by Stanley Toogood (:34). A long boat cuts free from foliage (:43). The narrator begins with a brief history of the Guatemalan people and lands (1:01). Guatemalan women scoop drinking water in ceramic pots (1:18), ring out hair (1:33) and wash clothing (1:35) on the shores of lake Atitlan. Boats push out on tranquil waters on Market day (2:22). A shot captures the attire of Guatemalan men as they push oar into water (2:13). Rolling waves lead to rolling Guatemalan countryside (2:40). White stucco buildings are capped with brown roofs (2:49). Market sellers cart furniture up cobblestone streets (3:11). Locals mill through the open air market in Chichicastenango as vendors set up (3:33). A sign notes the location of Abraham Lincoln School (3:39). A child blows a Guatemalan instrument (3:41); others bang on empty glass bottles (3:45). Back at the market, food plates thick with rice are passed out (4:26). Two men inspect new straw hats (4:40). A small white bird plays a small card trick (5:39). The Tikal temple appears under thick foliage (6:20). Ancient etchings line the stones (6:29). Rubber tipped sticks bounce against drum skins (6:39). Guatemalans in masks and festive attire perform a dance in the center of the marketplace (7:01). The stunning architecture of the Iglesias la Merced (7:47) is captured. Architectural ruins (8:54) dating to 1773 are viewed in Antigua known as the Old Capital (9:21). Girls jump rope (9:58) and play ball outside of school (10:05). The Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago Guatemala (10:16) stands in Guatemala City. A 1950 Pan Am clipper wings in at Pan American Airways (10:36). Flowers bloom in the Antigua Garden (11:39). A local pushes across the lake (13:36). Others wash clothes along the shoreline (13:56). An aerial shot follows of small resident lake side villages (14:08). Female Guatemalans spin yarn and thread for clothing (14:34). Locals ground corn (16:23). Workers pray on the steps in Chichicastenango on market day (17:32). The film concludes with an aerial shot of a mass of worshipper’s practicing religion (18:40).  Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
