<description>This silent footage from WWII was shot by U.S. Navy combat cameramen for use in wartime productions. Based on the content, this film appears that it was probably intended to promote the work of the combat cameramen and photographers in the Pacific. The film begins with footage aboard ship. At :00, a sailor uses an early radar system to detect incoming enemy aircraft. At :18, anti-aircraft gunners engage targets. At :30 a Japanese plane falls into the sea. At :37, an escort carrier is hit by either a Japanese bomb or a Kamikaze strike. At :44 the carrier is seen completely engulfed in flames. At 1:00 another Japanese plane hits the sea. At 1:25, a cameraman films the action with what appears to be a Filmo type camera made by Bell &amp; Howell. At . At 1:32, the escort carrier is seen again, its deck a mass of white and black flames. At 1:34 the film switches to the moving of wounded sailors after the attack. Body bags line the deck of the ship while at 1:45 the U.S. flag is seen flying, with a Red Cross ensign seen above. At 1:48 a mass is given by a priest, and it is filmed by a cameraman seen on the left side of the frame. At 1:52, sailors listen to the mass while at 2:00 the dead are committed to the sea. At 2:00 the cameraman pauses to pray while more casualties are sent to Davy Jones. At 2:20 the sun begins to set, just another day of combat in the Pacific. At 2:45, blinker lights report the presence of more enemy planes and a spectacular dusk battle begins with tracers flying up from the fleet towards unseen attackers. At 2:52 a Japanese plane is hit and explodes, and its burning debris seen at 3:00. At 3:12, D-day on a Japanese held island somewhere in the Pacific. At 3:24 a cameraman films on board a landing craft. At 3:32 the beach is lit up with artillery fire from battleships and cruisers. At 3:55 aircraft make dive bomb attacks on enemy positions. At 4:13 landing craft race towards the beach. Another cameraman is seen at 4:23. At 4:30 the Marines hit the beach. At 4:36 a combat camerman with a Speed Graphic snaps a photo. At 4:49, a combat cameraman is seen with the Marines. At 4:59, an iconic image of a dead Japanese soldier, his helmet lying nearby with a large gaping hole in it. At 5:00 mop-up forces enter the island while at 5:10 more photos are taken. At 5:14 a fallen combat photographer is shown. At 5:29 Marines take a smoke and rest while their comrades receive first aid and the wounded are evacuated.
