It begins with scenes in Miami Beach along Collins Avenue, with the Leroy Beach and Cabana Club (:31). The LeRoy Hotel and Villas, which boasted a view of Indian Creek and the ocean and opened in 1937, is shown next. At (:43) the Archway Ocean Villas at 6861 Collins Avenue. At (:54) a tourist walks across the street wearing a ridiculous straw hat. At (1:03) the office and sign for the Oceanic Villas. At (1:14) what appears to be the McLellan Ocean Villas. At (1:25) a woman leaves a cabana at the Oceanic Villas hotel. Oceanic Villas was billed as the "largest exclusive villa apartment-hotel in Miami Beach, one hundred apartments of luxurious living in the heart of the exclusive North Beach section" across the street from the Macfadden Deauville Beach Cabana Club. At (2:08) color footage, a woman named Gladys is shown at the Oceanic Villas. At (4:05) the Hialeah Racetrack is shown, no horse race is going on, Gladys is simply touring it. She is then shown walking at an estate or resort, followed by a shot of a man, presumably her husband (and possibly the filmmaker?) At (6:16) title card: Hollywood Beach, Hotel Gardens and Tamiami Trail (The Tamiami Trail is the southernmost 284 miles of U.S. Highway 41 from State Road 60 in Tampa to US 1 in Miami). At (7:11) what appears to be a marsh or the Everglades. At (8:09) shots of people relaxing on Deauville Beach, at the Deauville Beach Resort at 6701 Collins Ave. At (9:41) a man and his son walk up to camera, both are wearing sailors uniforms. At (11:17) the sailor poses with his other children and then at (11:44) with a woman who must be his wife. At (13:09) he poses with his mother. At (14:52) an older couple clowns around for the camera with a metal sculpture of a chipmunk. At (17:00) young kids wave small American flags, possibly in celebration of July 4th. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
