<description>This video is the fourth in a four part series that contains historic images of the United States’ space program. This episode for grades 4 to 12 contains two 1974 film segments about weightlessness aboard Skylab, NASA’s first space station. Why weightlessness occurs in spacecraft in low Earth orbit, Newton’s laws, and how fluids act in microgravity are described by scientist pilot Dr. Owen Garriott, who was on the crew of the second manned Skylab mission. Images of experiments being conducted on Skylab illustrate the explanations. The second segment examines research on fluids in weightless conditions and the application of these findings to nuclear physics.
