<description>DEF CON 19 (2011) presentation by Deviant Ollam. "Safe to Armed in Seconds: A Study of Epic Fails of Popular Gun Safes" An in-depth evaluation of some of the most popular small firearm lockboxes on the market, including the GunVault Microvault MV500, the BioBox, and the LokSAF PBS-001. These safes rely on mechanical locks, biometric locks, or a combination of both -- and tend to fail miserably in the face of any dedicated attacker. Demonstrations include picking tubular locks with commodity tools (the BioBox "basically flew open instantly"), defeating biometric sensors with a straightened paper clip from outside the safe, and other bypass techniques that render these products essentially security theater. Deviant Ollam is a GSA certified safe and vault technician and inspector, a security auditor and penetration testing consultant with The CORE Group, and a member of the Board of Directors of the US division of TOOOL (The Open Organisation Of Lockpickers).
