It shows how these teens' basic physical needs are met, how their mental development is stimulated and directed, how they are guided in their spiritual growth and how parents can develop the social consciousness which will make their children good companions in later life. It was made in 1953 and produced for McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc. The film was made by Crawley Films which was a Canadian film company active from 1938 to 1982. It was founded by Frank Radford Crawley (Budge Crawley) and Judith Crawley, and initially financed by Arthur Crawley. It was written by Elizabeth Bernger Hurlock, who received her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania; she changed her name to Elizabeth B. Beckman after marriage. The Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award Trust was created in her name to benefit teachers who have inspired their former students to make a significant contribution to society. The film begins with the Wilson family enjoying their breakfast (0:37), followed by teenager Tom throwing a baseball with his group of friends (1:23). Later on, a couple of the boys are seen getting off their bicycles (2:25). A banner displaying L. Bennington PT is shown in Jannet’s (Tom’s sister) room (3:35). An old-fashioned CRT T.V. is shown playing a black and white movie (4:07). Tom’s class is shown watching a film from an old-style projector (5:07).The narrator describes the two sides of education (5:33). In search of their lost faith, the children seek the guidance of a religious advisor (6:27-7:32), while Jannet, who has never wavered in hers, is seen singing in a church choir (8:00). The narrator begins to talk about the social needs of a teenager (8:11). Tom is later shown constructing the drama school’s sets (10:31), and Jannet is the chairperson of the school dance committee (10:54). The narrator then explains why dancing is an excellent activity for teenagers (11:32). The film concludes with the narrator beginning a summary of the events within it (15:45). The film ends (18:11).
