Kilham, this amazing film (reel one from a five-part series) shows some of the aspects of the construction of Radio City Music Hall and the Rockefeller Center. Kilham was a terrific architect in his own right and later in life built many significant buildings mostly in Boston. Earlier in his career he worked for the builders of the Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall, Reinard & Hofmeister (etc.) Apparently he persuaded them to let him film the project, and the images you see are the result. At some point Kilham presented these films as part of a lecture series. If you Google his name and "Radio City" you'll find reference to "Kilham to Describe Radio City Building" in the "Cornell Daily Sun" of 1947, and the comment that "Walter H. Kilham will discuss 'The Building of Radio City' in a lecture in Olin Hall on Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. His talk will be accompanied by a film of the building." Unfortunately we don't have his notes, but you can get a sense of some of the topics he might have discussed in the lecture. If you pay attention you'll also see numbers or notations in title cards that may have referred to a hand-out or other document that accompanied the lecture.
