It begins with footage of the astronauts that have participated in the Mercury program and how this served as a precursor to Gemini. This is followed by testing done on the Gemini capsules and extensive footage of astronaut instruction. The film then covers the launches of Gemini 3 and 4 and ends with stunning footage of Edward White’s spacewalk, the first by an American. 0:09 NASA Logo, 0:14 Cape Canaveral in Florida, 0:33 Alan Shepard preparing to fly to space, 0:58 Virgil Grissom, 1:09 John Glenn getting into his capsule, 1:16 Scott Carpenter, 1:21 Walter Schirra, 1:28 Gordon Cooper, 1:40 Gordon Cooper coming out of his capsule after landing, 2:02 engineers working on a Gemini capsule, 2:14 “Gemini: The Twins”, 2:54 Gemini module docking with another module on the ground, 3:06 Astronauts doing ground tests with the capsule, 3:41 a personnel meeting with astronaut Frank Burman speaking, 4:18 Gemini capsule being tested for its seaworthiness, 5:02 technicians monitoring the test, 5:16 flight crews being briefed in a classroom, 5:31 astronauts conducting survival training, 5:42 William Anders in a flight simulator to practice docking, 7:02 two astronauts in a simulator allowing them to practice the whole mission, 7:24 the instructor adding system failures to the simulation, 8:16 Virgil Grissom and John Young being brought to the launch pad and entering the capsule for the Gemini 3 flight, 9:20 Gemini 3 lifting off, 9:46 James McDivitt and Edward White entering the capsule for Gemini 4 and being launched, 10:16 Edward White performing the first American spacewalk, 11:48 NASA logo Gemini 3 was the first crewed mission in NASA's Project Gemini and was the first time two American astronauts flew together into space. On March 23, 1965, astronauts Gus Grissom and John Young flew three low Earth orbits in their spacecraft, which they nicknamed Molly Brown. It was the first U.S. mission in which the crew fired thrusters to change the size and shape of their orbit, a key test of spacecraft maneuverability vital for planned flights to the Moon. It was also the final crewed flight controlled from Cape Kennedy Air Force Station in Florida, before mission control functions were moved to a new control center at the newly opened Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. Gemini 4 (officially Gemini IV) was the second crewed spaceflight in NASA's Project Gemini, occurring in June 1965. Astronauts James McDivitt and Ed White circled the Earth 66 times in four days, making it the first US flight to approach the five-day flight of the Soviet Vostok 5. The highlight of the mission was the first space walk by an American, during which White floated free outside the spacecraft, tethered to it, for approximately 23 minutes. The flight also included the first attempt to make a space rendezvous as McDivitt attempted to maneuver his craft close to the Titan II upper stage which launched it into orbit, but this was not successful.
