The film shows the case of a young boy who is on the waitlist for a cornea transplant. The film mirrors his progress as he first enters the eye bank and awaits a transplant. Established in 1944, the non-profit Eye Bank was created in order to restore sight through corneal transplants and eye donations. The film relays recent progress in science and research as well as future goals encouraging viewers to contribute and donate to the Eye Bank. There was a high demand for corneal tissue and few donors. Filmmaker Richard Lyford worked for the First Motion Picture Unit during WWII, and later for Walt Disney. He is best known as the co-director of "The Titan", an Academy Award winning documentary about Michelangelo. Traffic buzzes in an aerial shot (:53). The story’s main characters are introduced (1:03); Mildred; aged 36, a professional fashion designer and a twelve year old Carl Schubert (1:17). A train pushes for New York (1:37). The feature is presented by the Eye Bank for Sight Restoration (1:48). Pedestrians exit the subway (2:44) for the Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital (3:07). Carl receives a slit-lampe examination (3:19). Walter explains texture and makeup of the eye and cornea (3:26). Doctors examine the quality of the donated material (18:47). Carl’s mother receives a call (19:05). Surgery is set to begin the following day. He appears under anesthesia (19:17). Carl takes an eye test (20:51) for new glasses (20:56). He views buildings for the first time (21:15) the America; a container ship (21:49) and rides his bike with friends (22:04). A final request for contributions concludes the film (23:56).
