It contains images of the Stars and Stripes, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Plymouth Rock, the Washington Monument, Capitol building, and images of U.S. Army troops and weapons in formation. At (1:27), "The Civil War" presents a brief history of the war between the states, using battle footage from a Hollywood production. At (2:11) the film shows the Confederate Army and comments about the spirit of the "rebel". At (3:19) the Union Army is shown in combat. At (3:49) the "grim and heroic figures in blue and gray" are celebrated as the names of battles are shown, including Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. The film ends with the War Department seal and spoken lines celebrating the Army of the Republic and ends with the line "the Union forever."
