It shows highlights of Project Gemini, with special emphasis on the Gemini XI and XII missions. Gemini 11 flew from September 12 to 15, 1966 with astronauts Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr. and Richard F. Gordon Jr.. The two performed the first direct-ascent (first orbit) rendezvous with an Agena Target Vehicle. They also used the Agena rocket engine to achieve a record high-apogee Earth orbit; and created a small amount of artificial gravity by spinning the two spacecraft connected by a tether. Gordon also performed two extra-vehicular activities for a total of 2 hours 41 minutes. Gemini XII was the final mission in the Gemini series, and took place in 1966. Commanded by Gemini VII veteran James A. Lovell, the flight featured three periods of extravehicular activity (EVA) by rookie Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, lasting a total of 5 hours and 30 minutes. It also achieved the fifth rendezvous and fourth docking with an Agena target vehicle. Highlights include: :29 Gemini–Titan II, a modified Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), is towed to launch complex past a VW Beetle. :58 Gemini–Titan II on launch pad. 1:14 Astronauts make their way to the launch pad and are assisted into the capsule by McDonnell employees. 2:04 Liftoff of the Gemini–Titan II. 2:11 Brief shot of Mission Control. 2:30 Launch of the Gemini Target Vehicle, which the mission would rendezvous with in orbit. (Gemini 12 was designed to perform rendezvous and docking with the Agena target vehicle, to conduct three extra-vehicular activity (EVA) operations, to conduct a tethered stationkeeping exercise, to perform docked maneuvers using the Agena propulsion system to change orbit, and demonstrate an automatic reentry.) 3:19 Station keeping with Gemini launch vehicle, which can be seen rotating in orbit. 4:17 Astronaut dons spacesuit and checks helmet visor and maneuvering system. 5:42 EVA of astronaut outside Gemini capsule 6:55 Topography of Earth and weather systems are studied. 8:08 A card shows Gemini mission activity: rendezvous, station keeping, docking, and maneuvers with 10;12 Gemini 9, Station keeping with Augmented Target Docking Adapter (ATDA), with launch shroud still in place (dubbed the "angry alligator"). 11:30 Docking with Agena Target Vehicle 13:02 Firing Agena Primary Propulsion System while docked 14:17 Astronauts shown working in space and conducting tether experiments. 15:12 Gemini XII extra vehicular activity 19:17 Tethered vehicle experiment in Gemini XI. This was to demonstrate passive attitude stabilization of the two spacecraft to create artificial gravity by spinning the combined craft. 21:08 Pilot controlled Gemini re-entry 23:30 Gemini re-entry and landing in the ocean, followed by recovery Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
