<description>One of the outstanding travelogues created by Eugene Castle and his company Castle Films, this travelogue of Mexico begins and ends with a stereotypical image, of a peasant riding atop a donkey. The film presents the "most exotic land in the Western Hemisphere" including shots of charming towns and native villages. At 1:10, women are seen washing clothes at a town square. At 1:29, a street barber provides shaves and haircuts, and at 1:50 an oxcart is seen. At 1:59, a Mexican port is seen (we'd love to know where). At 2:17, a woodcarver is seen at work, and at 2:30 pottery is made in the traditional way. At 3:00, rope is made by hand, and at 3:10 a traditional marketplace is seen. At 3:25 some caballeros are seen wearing beautiful clothes, in preparation for a fiesta, rodeo and bull throwing contest. At 4:20 another Mexican town is shown, and a wayside shrine. At 4:50, Indian fishing methods are seen. At 5:00, the Mexican Air Force makes a flight over the massive pyramids near Mexico City. At 5:40, Mexico City is seen with Popocatépetl volcano in the background. At 6:10, the Mexico City cathedral is seen and the Palace of Fine Arts nearby at 7:26. At 7:00, a monument to Montezuma is seen. A bull fight is seen at 8:00 and at 8:30 the floating gardens at Xochimilco are shown. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Contact us via the weblink below. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
