Apparently in 1978 or 79 (sources differ) the blimp hit power lines during night maneuvers. The damage was pretty severe as the control car was smashed in, but there was apparently no loss of life. A dramatic rescue of the airship's crew and passengers took place in the darkness and all the way till dawn. This amazing, amazing movie shows the rescue! It starts in darkness with the blimp barely visible tangled in the power lines. Gradually the scene gets lighter as heavy equipment moves in and the craft secured so that a ladder can be used for the escape of the passengers. Eventually the blimp is pulled by firemen and ground crew onto the ground for a safe landing. After this accident, the Mayflower was decommissioned - this was its last flight.
