Directed by Jones, a renowned British short filmmaker who made films for both BP and Shell Oil’s film units, “Trinidad & Tobago” relies on thematic montage sequences to showcase a wide sampling of life on the islands. It's no surprise that BP produced a film about the island, as Trinidad and Tobago produces almost 98K barrels per day of oil (2016) ranking as the 50th most productive site in the world, and the largest oil and natural gas producer in the Caribbean. BPTT remains Trinidad and Tobago’s largest hydrocarbon producer, accounting for more than half of the country’s national production of oil and gas. Opens with sunset montage: swaying palms trees, silhouetted people at harbor, palm grove (00:06). River montage: still water; reflections of trees; wading bird; fish jumping (00:36). Montage of building exteriors: wooden, stilted beach huts with grass and sheet metal roofs, plaster and stucco-walled, ground-level houses, closeups of window shutters and curtains, two-level homes with turrets and eaves, a large stone building with a tower (possibly a school), a mansion with second floor balconies, a midcentury building with large glass panes, modern apartment blocks with exterior spiral staircases (03:42). Houses of worship montage: a one-room wooden church, a larger church stilted on concrete blocks, church interior, mosques (04:08). Agricultural montage: men shoveling and crushing cacao beans with their feet, slicing open cacao pods, fruit pickers in trees, sacks of produce carried on heads, laborer using a watering can, cows being groomed by birds in a field (04:33). Boys playing cricket in a field (05:31). Hindu temple, numerous shots of statues and murals (05:38). Sugar cane montage: workers harvesting sugar cane with machetes; yoked oxen carrying loads of cane; huge load of cane transported in a truck; sugar cane in rail freight cars (06:08). Automobile montage: mid-1950s sedans (probably Fords), cyclist on a racing bicycle, medium duty trucks (possibly Bedfords), Lambretta scooter, Solo soda delivery truck, heavy duty truck carrying earthmover, passenger bus, an open-bed BP truck (07:04) Street market montage: fishmongers, produce being weighed and haggled over, live chickens being carried, a stray dog trots, spokes of spinning horse-drawn cartwheels, man tossing fish out of a rowboat (07:35) Smiling children dancing in a circle (09:35).
