Directed by Jones, a renowned British short filmmaker who made films for both BP and Shell Oil’s film units, “Trinidad & Tobago” relies on thematic montage sequences to showcase a wide sampling of life on the islands. It's no surprise that BP produced a film about the island, as Trinidad and Tobago produces almost 98K barrels per day of oil (2016) ranking as the 50th most productive site in the world, and the largest oil and natural gas producer in the Caribbean. BPTT remains Trinidad and Tobago’s largest hydrocarbon producer, accounting for more than half of the country’s national production of oil and gas. Opens with sunset montage: swaying palms trees, silhouetted people at harbor, palm grove (00:06). River montage: still water; reflections of trees; wading bird; fish jumping (00:36). Steam locomotive pushing freight cars begins industrial montage: oil derricks, pumps, tractors, pipelines, BP worker in hardhat monitoring an oil well, oil drills spinning, petroleum rail tankers, sugar cane harvesting and threshing, sugar cane juice extraction, controlled burns of cane fields, seamstresses working at sewing machine, thread spooling, Red Solo soda production line, soda bottles in wooden crates being stacked, wooden barrels being rolled, earth mover digging a foundation or well, (09:54). Lengthy Carnival parade montage, mostly close-ups of peoples’ faces: the streets are full of men and women in bright costumes, elaborate headdresses, paper mâché masks, animal costumes (bat, lion, chicken), skull headpieces, clowns, steel drums playing calypso, choreographed group dancing, flag spinners, uniformed police and soldier dancing, wide crowd shot of horseback police, brass bands, a TTT film cameraman (13:06).
