<description>This Vietnam Era film THE MEN AND THE MINUTE presents members of the National Guard flying missions over Vietnam and the many other missions of the Guard. It shows the Tennessee National Guard flying transport missions to Ton San Nhut Air Base. The Oklahoma Air National Guard's "Talking Bird" C-97 is also shown conducting radio broadcasts over Vietnam. Guantanomo Bay, Cuba is also shown with U.S. Marines on patrol near mine fields and a no-mans land. Members of the Washington National Guard are shown working on naval tugs, utility vessels and transports, as well as making practice landings with LCMs; their flotilla is the only one in the Guard. Linguists trained by the Guard are shown at the 8 minute mark studying Mandarin Chinese for intelligence gathering purposes. Green Berets of the Utah Special Forces Guard are shown at the 9 minute mark. A group of Guardsmen in Puerto Rico known as the Buccaneers are shown who perform with steel drums at the 10 minute mark. The Air Guard is shown flying F-86 jet aircraft, and a radar station is also shown. The 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard, a reserve force or SRF, is shown training for readiness. Hawaii is also shown at the 15 minute mark, with Guardsmen providing primary defense for the Army. The Nike Hercules battery on Hawaii is shown conducting a practice firing. More advanced aircraft are shown at the 17 minute mark including Century series fighter and attack aircraft. A full scale ground attack exercise is shown at the 20 minute mark forward with aircraft making strikes. At 24 minutes, sled dogs are shown working with the Alaska Army Guard. Tan Son Nhut Air Base (Vietnamese: Căn cứ không quân Tân Sơn Nhứt) (1955–1975) was a Republic of Vietnam Air Force (VNAF) facility. It is located near the city of Saigon in southern Vietnam. The United States used it as a major base during the Vietnam War (1959–1975), stationing Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine units there. Following the Fall of Saigon, it was taken over as a Vietnam People's Air Force (VPAF) facility and remains in use today. Guantanamo Bay Naval Base (also called GTMO and pronounced gitmo by the U.S. military) is located on 45 square miles (120 km2) of land and water at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, which the United States leased for use as a coaling and naval station in the Cuban–American Treaty of 1903 (for $2,000 until 1934, for $4,085 since 1938 until now). The base is on the shore of Guantánamo Bay at the southeastern end of Cuba. It is the oldest overseas U.S. Naval Base. Since 1959, the Cuban government has consistently protested against the U.S. presence on Cuban soil and called it illegal under international law, alleging that the military base was imposed on Cuba by force. At the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2013, Cuba's Foreign Minister demanded the U.S. return the base and the "usurped territory" occupied since the U.S. invasion of Cuba during the Spanish–American War in 1898.
