The purpose of the film is to demonstrate how to survive when you’re emergency equipment fails and how to use signaling techniques to save yourself. The film opens with a soldier running down the hill through the brush. He is in danger. Survival – Improvised Emergency Signaling. A soldier is starting a fire with brush in the desert 1:10. A man carries his parachute; it is apparent that he has landed in unknown territory 1:37. The soldier finds a high place to set up his camp 1:50. The man is setting a fire with wooden blocks 2:15. The man closes a thatch roof over his fire to create smoke 2:30. Aerial view shows how the smoke rises from the jungle 2:46. A soldier burns different kinds of fires to create different kinds of smoke 3:15. At nighttime, signal fires are set 3:32. The tree torch fire is set 4:10. A green log platform/raised platform base will keep fire from going out in snow 4:25. The ground to air emergency code screen is shown 4:34. The different symbols of the emergency code are shown with measurements 4:48. The different emergency codes are shown from the sky 5:30. A soldier creates the symbols in the snow. He uses colored materials and digs trenches for shadows 6:50. In a desert terrain, colored materials are best to use for signaling and shadows can also be used by digging trenches 7:30. You can also make shadows by building symbols above ground level 8:04. A man adjusts his signal 8:25. A parachute caught in the trees will serve as its own signal from the air 8:52.
