It is presented by Castle Films (:07) and will visit Africa first as the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth made the first ever royal family trip to the country (:23). While there, the pair took a 10,000-mile tour and enjoyed a demonstration performed by the Zulu warriors (:33). Turning to turmoil in Korea, the country had been experiencing unrest since the end of WW2 in 1945 and were seeking independence after 40 years of Japanese control (1:12). Footage of riots in the streets (1:03) include the police working to restore order (1:16). The Civil War in Palestine was beginning in 1947 (1:23) and a span of bombed buildings opens this segment (1:31). British authorities were imposing restrictions in many cities including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv (1:31). A refugee ship is seen at port at Haifa which had survived a gun battle (1:48). Footage of injured refugees and a destroyed British troop train follow (2:04). The next segment follows President Truman around on his ‘goodwill visits’ (2:07). In Mexico City, he is welcomed by President Miguel Aleman Valdes (2:14). In Ottawa, Canada he is pictured with Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King (2:39) and addressing the Canadian parliament (2:46). Truman also visited Rio de Janeiro during the ratification of the Inter American defense pact (3:27) and is seen with President Dilma Rouseff (3:32) watching Brazilian parades in celebration of 125 years of independence. A new record was set with a flight around the world by Bill Odom (3:56). He had set the previous record and was looking to break it with the same plane, a converted 26A Bomber named ‘Reynold’s Bombshell’ (4:00). His flight path is shown (4:05) as well as one of his refueling stops (4:16) and when he arrives back in Chicago in five hours less than his old record (4:22). After record colds hit Europe, flood waters swelled and hit Warsaw in the spring (4:43). Shots of the Vistula River as the ice sheets crashed against (4:49) and eventually broke (4:57) a railway bridge, are captured. On the US east coast, Florida was hit with the worst hurricane of 17 years (5:12). Palm trees are seen bent sideways as winds hit up to 150 mph (5:18) from Miami to Palm Beach. Recorded losses totaled over $20 million (5:27). A young Queen Elizabeth is on horseback celebrating her father’s 51st birthday (5:54). Crowds are then seen gathering in front of Buckingham palace to greet her and future prince consort, Philip Mountbatten (6:22) and they would be married on November 20th, 1947. The World Series games of 1947 follows with highlights from the final two games between the Yankees and the Dodgers (6:37). Footage of Joe DiMaggio hitting what he believed to be a home run that Al Gionfriddo caught is seen at (7:04). In the seventh game, the Yankees won the championship, five to two (7:46). Disaster struck in Texas City at Galveston Bay (7:43). Massive black clouds spill out from a fire that started on a French registered vessel, the SS Grandcamp which was carrying 2200 tons of ammonium nitrate (8:02). This set a chain reaction and other ships and facilities caught aflame killing a total of 581 and injuring thousands (8:09). This incident sparked the first ever class action lawsuit against the US government on behalf of the victims. This is the final segment and the film concludes at (8:46).
