It begins with it’s formation through natural processes in sandstone continuing to show major developments resulting from discoveries in PA’s salt mines to the location of major reserves southwest of the US. This led to the challenge of developing a web of interconnected pipelines. Major technological innovations are captured along the way forced by means of growing demand for cheap and efficient energy sources thus refining locating and extraction methods. Later sections show the use of sound waves, seismographs and telemetering systems. Board executives solve complex issues including shifting seasonal demands through the use of formerly depleted revisors for surplus gas for winter months. It explores the industrial versatility of gas and its role in petrochemistry including shots of vintage equipment. Columbia Gas has roots in the oil industry beginning in 1847. Movement of gas through layers of sediment (7:04). Early dry hole digging included horse and cart (9:55). Smoke fills the rig justifying the new science of gas geology (10:43). Workers seek variations in the earth’s magnetic field (11:19) in the Southwest (11:52) leading to the construction of a network of nearly a quarter of a million miles of pipeline (12:17).
