Obviously it shows at least two years in the life of this young girl, a member of the "Baby Boomer" generation. It starts with her crawling in early 1950 and progresses to the point where she receives a tricycle for Christmas, 1951. Various scenes include girl in her crib, climbing over the side, riding on a red hobby horse or spring-loaded horse riding toy, her father or a friend of the family lifting her up over his head and dropping her between his open legs, Christmas day with presents being opened. The film begins with a baby girl dressed in white crawling around on a red carpet as sunlight hits her (0:27). She pulls to standing on a green armchair, and a dog approaches her. She crumples a piece of newspaper and sticks it in her mouth (1:22). Someone covers her with a yellow blanket and tickles her stomach (2:06). Laying down, she sucks on a bottle and plays with her white shoes (2:24). A red-haired woman dressed in black with red lipstick holds the baby; they are outside in front of a brick wall (2:30). The dog from earlier comes up and they pet it. A man in a fedora holds the baby (3:27). The baby in a crib and bouncy seat; she claps her hands (4:20) and bounces. She crawls on a yellow blanket with red leaves in her crib (6:22). A cardboard sign: “Jan. 7, 1950” (6:40); the baby crawls across the rug and a man in a suit entices her with a pencil. Another cardboard sign: “Feb. 26, 1950.” (7:22). The girl walks around a kitchen and her crib, and rocks in the bouncer. “Mar. 4 1950” (8:42). The woman, in a fur coat, and the girl, dressed in pink, walk outside on the sidewalk. A window thermometer shows 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10:24). The man in the fedora and another man encourage the girl to walk between them on the sidewalk. A man in a plaid shirt pushes the girl on a swing (11:08). The girl pets the dog on the lawn (12:38) and rocks in a white wicker chair. A card reads, “Oct. 17 1950” (13:48). The girl, in a white dress, rides a red rocking horse toy (14:10). A man grabs her hands and swings her around. She pedals a red tricycle on the sidewalk (15:28), climbs a swing set ladder, and goes down the slide. A man, probably her father, pushes her on the swings (17:14). “July 18, 1951” (17:36). The girl, in a yellow dress, swings by herself and runs around a grassy field. She goes down the slide (19:52) and plays on the swing set (21:00). She plays with a gray cat (21:35), rocks on the rocking horse., and tries to shake the cat off a picnic table. Title card: “Oct. 28, 1951” (23:01). The girl climbs into her crib with a bottle and plays in a leaf pile (23:59). A man holds her hand and they walk around in circles in a living room (25:12). The girl gives an umbrella to the man sitting on a red couch. The girl talks with a woman, probably her grandmother. “Christmas 1951” (26:46); the girl walks around a Christmas tree. A Christmas party with family; Santa Claus in a red suit (27:17). She mounts a red tricycle in front of the Christmas tree, pedals around, and plays with a drum and baby doll (28:02). She opens a box with dollhouse furniture (29:17). The film ends as she continues to ride the trike. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you.
