The film tells the tale of a character named Fred (played by William Frawley) who employs a spy agency to collect information on the 1961 Chevy lineup. The film opens with an alluring female member of the Gracie Tracy Spy agency (Barbara Perry) at the Chevy proving ground snapping photographs (:11) for her mission. The title screen appears over one of the warning signs (:40). William Frawley is introduced; he was commonly known for his role as the landlord Fred Mertz in “I Love Lucy” (:51). The film was directed by James V. Kern and also features Maryanne Cohan, Arlene Avril, Toni Hesse and Dorothy Dollivar (1:04). The Door of the Gracie Tracy Detective Agency at Acme Co (1:18) follows. Fred calls for entry (1:33). He meets with the secretary (1:53) and is buzzed into Tracy’s office (2:35). Fred bellows over a lack of information collected on the 1961 Chevy (2:45). Footage of the Corvair is shown in 1960, driving on Pike's Peak and in Central America. The spy returns from her mission (3:25) and shows the barely visible Chevrolet truck on captured film (4:27). Other spies enter; one from Pike’s Peak (5:27) and another from the Panama Canal (5:34). The group looks to Chevrolets 1960’s lineup (6:07). A light blue Corvair (6:19) drives over Pike’s Peak. It is test run in cold weather (6:34). Footage of another Corvair runs up the Pan American highway and through deep waters (6:55). Stuntman Joie Chitwood gets a feature (7:55) as the third spy is taken for a terrifying stunt run. The group travels to the Pre-Announcement Showroom for the unveiling for the 1961 Chevy (9:27). Fred attempts to enter the showroom and comically fails three times (10:05). He eventually stumbles into the backstage area (12:29) and is redirected to audience seats. Behind red curtains, the 1961 Impala Sports Sedan appears (13:00). A new station wagon model (13:25) follows in a six or nine passenger model. Bel Airs (13:35) and a red Chevy Corvette are pictured (13:44). An overview of new features (14:29) include a splash free tank fuller neck (14:29). The Gracie Tracy troupe remains stuck outside of the show (15:03). The 1961 Chevy Truck’s shocks and rear suspension are looked to (15:18). The 1961 Tilt Cab Series follows (16:28). The interior of the Chevrolet Monza (18:05) and Lakewood Deluxe model are looked to (18:32). The Corvair Sports Wagon (15:51) follows. The engine is exposed including higher gas intake (19:13). The female spies appear plopped within the car model spinning on stage (21:53). They sing a tune (21:53) as the film concludes. It was presented by Chevrolet (23:32). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
