The SWC was created from the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in White Oak, Maryland and the Naval Weapons Laboratory in Dahlgren, Virginia. The film features images of the various work begin conducted, including with ordnance, weapons, computers, surface ship weapon systems. The EX-105, a guided projectile, is seen at the 3 minute mark hitting a test target. Another guided missile, the EX-106 is seen at the 4 minute mark. The laser-guided EX-85 is seen at the 4:30 mark, along with a Marine Corps. 8-inch howitzer. A patrol craft / hydrofoil is seen at the 4:50 mark. Various naval artillery is seen at the 5 minute mark, including the land-based test site known as the Potomac Test Range. The Dahlgren facility is seen at the 6 minute mark, and various air-launched missiles seen including structural penetrator weapons at the 7 minute mark. Air-dropped mines are seen at the 8 minute mark, including dropping by an A-6 Intruder. A torpedo strike is seen at the 9:32 mark, with a ship being torn in half and sinking in a full scale weapons test. At the 9:30 mark, strategic launched missiles are seen including the support systems for the SSBN Polaris submarines and Trident submarines. At 9:57, and IBM Mainframe Computer is loaded with magnetic tape and used in analysis. A hypervelocity wind tunnel is seen at the 11:30 mark to test re-entry bodies. A Naval Surface Warfare Center is part of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) operated by the United States Navy. NAVSEA Warfare Centers supply the technical operations, people, technology, engineering services and products needed to equip and support the Fleet and meet the warfighter's needs. The Warfare Centers are the Navy's principal Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) assessment activity for surface ship and submarine systems and subsystems.
